In The Dark V1.1 Update Notes


It's been a few years but I wanted to go back and make some improvements to In The Dark so here you go. Hope everyone enjoys it!

Changelog for Version 1.1:

 

Visual:

  • Adjusted shader material for water pools so they have soft edges and are more visually appealing.
  • Adjusted visible bounds for all search lights to make it more obvious when you are about to be spotted
  • Adjusted dust particle appearance, behavior, performance cost, and location within all levels.
  • Improved appearance of non-electric puddles of water
  • Improved appearance of falling rubble shadows
  • Adjusted the post processing effects for the ending level to reduce overall brightness
  • Changed appearance of the exit and entrance areas of each level  

Gameplay:

  • Removed and repositioned lights for the final level
  • Reduced the damage received from drone light sources
  • Redesigned level 7 "Privileged access" and level 13 "In Need of Repairs" to allow the player to exit areas which they could previously get trapped in
  • Adjusted damage bounds and on/off intervals for lights to better fit each level
  • Made lore terminal areas easier to find
  • Redesigned level 20 "Too Many Choices" to reduce walking distance between major locations
  • Added wall marker for lasers to make it possible to see their location when they are turned off
  • Increased strength of base barrier to withstand direct light for longer  

Performance:

  • Adjusted fade distance and strength of all lights in each level to drastically improve performance and area lighting
  • Adjusted all existing sprites to reduce triangle counts
  • Made code improvements to parent and child instances of light variants to reduce performance drain.  

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed an issue that allowed you to spam the animation for viewing a lore terminal
  • Adjusted sprite render layers to fix issues where certain ground details would appear above other sprites incorrectly
  • Fixed grammatical issues with ending screen
  • Fixed issue with green key door on level 20 where it would open into the wrong position
  • Fixed issue with some lights which would not change their material properly when turned off
  • Updated level transition texts to fix grammar errors and improve clarity.
